SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under general direction of the Center Director, provides children with developmentally appropriate activities in a safe and nurturing environment. Is responsible for the day­ to­day operation of a particular age program.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Creates a learning environment in which children can feel safe, explore freely, and develop relationships with adults and peers. Helps children assert themselves in socially acceptable ways, feel competent through learning, to be independent, curious and creative. Facilitates play where children are respected and who respect each other. Assists in providing developmentally appropriate activities that are age and individually appropriate, integrated and relevant to the lives of young children. Actively includes parents in the child’s learning and development by providing opportunities for classroom participation, formal and informal communication and parent education. Participates in continuing education opportunities and abides by the standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC). Abides by the Town of Manchester policies regarding health and safety, personnel, purchasing and other related matters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Social Work or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. One years experience working with pre­ school age children preferred. Valid CT drivers license. Ability to obtain certification in CPR/First Aid.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Town of Tolland

Director of Tolland Green Learning Center

The Tolland Green Learning Center was established by the United Church of Christ in Tolland, CT, 27 years ago as a community service. The current director is retiring in October after 19 years of service.

Responsibilities include everyday operations, staff, and administration. The director supervises and supports a staff of 12 to provide an extended-day preschool program and childcare, and a before- and after-school program for 80-85 children.

Minimum qualifications: Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 years experience in early education.
